Attending births is like growing roses. You have to marvel at the ones that just open up and bloom at the first kiss of the sun but you wouldn't dream of pulling open the petals of the tightly closed buds and forcing them to blossom to your time line.

What is the significance of this name? In part, it’s because I am a Christian and
so it is a reference to my faith. I believe that God intricately designed the
woman’s body for birth and that trusting that design yields amazing results. It
is also a reference to the 3 of us - doula, mother, and father (or, in some
circumstances, other loved one/support person) - working as one, to bring
about the best birth experience possible.
My “slogan” is Ecclesiastes 4:12, “A cord of three strands is not easily broken”,
which beautifully illustrates my role of doula as a protector and strengthener of
the first two strands - the mother’s and the father’s. Their love and their bond
can be woven in tightly and seamlessly with the "third strand" care that I
provide, leading to a safe, healthy, and fulfilling outcome for all.
Of course, not all of my clients share my faith or belief system and I serve
families from many diverse backgrounds. I never push my personal beliefs on
anyone.
Why "Trinity"?
My Personal Experience
I have 3 young children of my own.
The first, my daughter, was born in a hospital induction with standard medical
interventions and an epidural and narcotics for pain relief. The second, my
oldest son, was born in an all-natural, non-interventive waterbirth at a
freestanding birth center. It was the exhilarating experience of my son's birth
that put me on the path to becoming a doula and childbirth educator. The
third, my youngest son, was born at home, with licensed midwives, in 2007.
I have nursed all my children well into toddlerhood, and am
well-trained and experienced with lactation issues, so I am
also able to assist with general breastfeeding support (or refer to a
board-certified lactation consultant, as necessary).
I am a member of the Central Texas Doula Association, The Association of
Texas Midwives, and La Leche League.
My Professional Experience and Birth Philosophy
I am trained as a doula by both DONA (Doulas of North America) and ALACE
(Association of Labor Assistants and Childbirth Educators), and I originally
certified with DONA in spring 2005. I attended my first birth within a week of
my DONA workshop and jumped in full-force! I have worked steadily since
then, with the exception of a hiatus after my youngest child was born. Since
my original training, I have supplemented my education by attending additional
trainings and conferences, which ensures that I remain knowledgeable and
up-to-date about new birth issues and the constantly changing state of
maternity care.
I have experience with hospital and out-of-hospital birth (birth center and
homebirth), medicated and unmedicated birth, inductions, cesarean, VBAC, and
waterbirth. I can provide excellent references from former clients.
I believe that childbirth is a normal, natural process that, in most cases, can be
left to beautifully and safely unfold on its own, without an abundance of
intervention. My passion is empowering women to achieve the birth they
desire, in as healthy and as positive a way possible.
I keep my rates low-to-mid range for our area (certified/experienced doulas in
the Austin area typically charge anywhere from $500 to $1200, depending on a
variety of factors). Please see the Fees section for more information, and do
not hesitate to contact me, even if money may be an issue. We may be able to
work something out. No one who wants a doula should go without because of
finances!
