What about after the birth?
I also offer postpartum doula services.
Postpartum doulas “mother the mother”
through the transition to new family life,
offering a nurturing, supportive presence
through the often-overlooked “fourth
trimester“.
Trained in breastfeeding, postpartum
recovery, newborn care, and family dynamics, she educates and
empowers the family to be confident in their new roles. She serves them
by providing assistance with everyday activities (including mother and
baby care, cooking/meal prep, and light housekeeping), as well as
offerring community referrals and a listening ear through the ups and
downs of new parenthood.
Postpartum doulas are not baby nurses, though they are experienced
with newborn care and are happy to teach and assist with this. But the
doula's focus is more appropriately the entire family
unit - she protects and facilitates a smooth
"babymoon" for mom and dad, and even helps
any siblings to adjust. She is knowledgeable about
birth, bonding, different parenting philosophies,
and postpartum depression. To read more about
the role of a postpartum doula, click here.
I work with both multiples and single babies, and
a am available for day or night shifts. Fees range
fr from $18-25/hr (depending on packages), and
families are free to develop a schedule that
meets their individual needs, whether it be a few
hours a few times a week, or much more. I work
closely with back-up doulas in case of illness, family
emergency, or my need to be at a birth.

Answers to Common Questions
What if I need a lot of help preparing before the birth?
In addition to the free interview/initial consultation, contracted
postpartum clients have access to my library of
birth/breastfeeding/parenting books and videos. These help
educate them ahead of time about the choices and changes to
come, and how best to navigate the perhaps-unfamiliar terrain of
having a newborn. Clients also are free to call or e-mail me
anytime prenatally with questions or concerns, and I can will
provide them with information, research, and learning material.
For an additional fee, we can meet again and discuss important
topics in more depth, if necessary.
How many hours will I need? How will we know how to schedule your
services?
Babies, like birth, are unpredictable. It's hard to know ahead of
time how your birth will go, what the baby's temperament will be,
or just how easily things will "click" for you as a new parent. For
this reason, there is built-in flexibility with your services, centered
around your needs (but taking into consideration my availability).
The minimum number of hours contracted and deposited for is
just 8 (2 4-hr shifts or 3 3-hr shifts, for example). We will
develop an anticipated postpartum plan for number, length, and
frequency of shifts, but once baby comes, we can easily add and
adjust hours to that original lineup.
I am interested in a birth doula, too. Can we use you for both?
Yes. Ask about the birth/postpartum doula package, in which you
receive true continuity of care - I work with you prenatally and
attend your birth as the birth doula and then continue to work
with you afterward as your postpartum doula. Combo packages
start at $800 for the birth and 12 hours of postpartum support.
